What’s this? A drastic, ambitious genre change being announced on April 1st? Surely this HAS to be one hundred percent legit an in no way a prank! …also I really suck at playing April Fools straight!

But seriously, this is exactly the kind of joke comic I like doing best.  Drastic style changes are much more obviously funny to me than fake plot twists.  Alas, those are also a lot more time consuming to think up and create, so I’ve only been able to do a few like that over the years.  But with new comics on hiatus right now, the sky’s the limit!

And in case anybody’s wondering, I slapped these characters together over a few days’ messing around with VRoid.  There’s some nice plausible deniability in the fact that they’re SUPPOSED to look kind of creepy and sloppy, which nicely covers for how bad I am at this scary three dimensions thing.  Also, those “vibrant, lifelike” backgrounds are screencaps of old cg tech demos from the early 80s… which ironically still look better than the models I made with shiny new 21st century technology.

Well, that’s another holiday page in the can.  Be sure to keep checking faroutthere.com for more re-post of the old comics, and see you in a few weeks for Easter!

(Historical Notes: Holy crap, I actually have to come up with a new April Fools comic in a few week that’ll top THIS?  Talk about a challenge.  I still think this is the one April Fools comic I’m more proud of than anything.  To reiterate, doing a comic in a totally different medium is WAY harder than just a different genre, but the results are a lot more rewarding.)
