Chekhov’s disposal chute comes into play at last!

And before you ask if it’d just make more sense for an underhanded criminal organization to just KILL a person snooping around… yeah, probably.  But this is Far Out There, where all the deaths happen off-screen, so that’s out of the question.  Besides, we can argue that a murder investigation, or even a missing person investigation, would only draw MORE attention and thus defeat the point of neutralizing the snoop in the first place.  A campaign to discredit said snoop would be more time consuming, but ultimately attract less outside attention.  The thought also occurs that this would be a benefit of employing people who already have minimal credibility to begin with.  Half the work is already done before they even show up!

This concludes me rationalizing a set piece that really just had to happen to justify what I’d already drawn for the first page.
