page 893 – formal threatened apology
Heeeeeeey, remember how I said that breaking the big Conventional Wisdom update up into chunks would hopefully avoid any more delays with Far Out There? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahaha yeah I didn’t even start penciling this page until after 5am. I mean, it DID get done, and I even managed to get a fresh Voting Incentive done as well, but still… YAWN.
Oh, and I DID get the first chunk of MAGFest comics finished and posted last night, so anybody could go check that out too, it’d be much appreciated (and remember, there’s still around thirty more pages where those came from).
…and before I finally pass out, I must make an apology of my own for any typos that turn up in Tabitha’s big apology. Writing that many big words while this sleepy probably wasn’t a smart move. Also, I’m kind of sorry to have resorted to the old “huge block of text with a single talking character” trick again. My original plan had actually called for at least four panels of Tabitha talking, both to break up the text and show her doing a lot of awkward fidgeting… but I direct you again to my previous statements about not even starting the penciling until after 5.
Oh, and to those of you feeling let down that we didn’t actually SEE Layla reading Tabitha the riot act… you just wait đ
(Historical Notes: One of the classic artist gripes is how a right-handed artist has a fine time drawing characters facing left, but those same characters facing right suddenly left looks like crap. I don’t fully understand the details myself, but it’s definitely a thing that I was worried about on these more dramatic pages. For example, on this page, I actually drew Tabitha’s big central drawing facing left, in hopes that I could just flip the drawing right and have it look normal. It did not look normal. I am SO glad I didn’t try to color that part of the page in, because I had to do some MAJOR surgery to this line art for Tabitha to stop looking wonky.)
Ok, I know Blitz doesnât want character ages pinned down, but: My head canon is that Layla is 16-17ish, Tabitha 15-16ish, and Trigger 11-12ish. Iâd say that Skye is 14-16ish.
Teen Boy Squadâs roughly triggerâs age. Iâd put the junior nitpicker duo at 13-14. Age is functionally meaningless for Avatar and Fix. Now, who else am I missing from the youngâuns⌠oh, the Hectors. Iâd say Laylaâs age for Kevin, 13-14 for Jenna, and 8-9ish for Megaweapon.
Not sure why that occurred to me while reading this part, but it did. So I shared it! (The older characters ages are mostly irrelevant to their interactions, so Iâm not going to consider it nearly as much.)
That’s actually pretty darn close to the age assumptions I use (I may not want the exact number nailed down, but knowing who’s older/younger than who is still kinda important). The only bit that’s off is that I generally think of Tabitha being around a year or so OLDER than Layla, if only because that makes it funnier when Layla’s generally the more mature of the two.
Well, youâve gotten the look and personalities for the ages of the kids down right then. Good jerb hamstar!
I should really find a way to add a “like” or “thumbs up” function to more properly reward a good Homestar reference đ
Rereading the comic again, a year and a bit later- I finally notice there ARE thumbs up/down functions on the posts now! Cool.
Dangit, just realized I wrote âFixâ instead of Tax. Good jorb me! Only caught it⌠two and a half hours too late to edit it!
