page 1370 – Job Satisfaction
First off, go see the bonus Father’s Day comic that went up on Sunday… because Lord knows I sure failed to give anybody a heads up that it was coming over the course of last week.
Otherwise, this is another one of those comics where I kinda just started drawing without much plan, and came up with the dialog after the fact to suit the visuals. If the speech bubbles are harder to follow than usual this week, well, there’s a reason I usually try NOT to do comics this way. But sometimes, ya just gotta draw something really goofy looking, ya know? besides, it’s been a while since we’ve had a glimpse into Ichabod’s weird, WEIRD past, hasn’t it? I guess this puts a whole new spin on Ichabod’s power fantasies, huh?
EDIT: New TWC Voting Incentive is up! Also, I managed to get a BUNCH of Conventional Wisdom pages up over the past few days, so do me a solid and go check those out too, please?

Are the black hole invaders a constitutional monarchy then?
I suspect that the Black Hole Invaders found something that worked for them, and then continued to develop beyond their expectations and the system’s limitations. As such, they added a new layer on top of that one with less direct authority and more bureaucracy to reduce the impact. The figurehead position actually ended up keeping them unified despite the diversification of their forces that they needed a new figurehead position to pseudo-manage the figurehead position.
That process then repeated itself three-to-ten more times, with the current “highest position” being Grand Emperor. Their common soldiers are currently broad and diverse enough that they’re thinking about whether or not they need to make a God Emperor to be a figurehead ruling over Grand Emperor’s, but Ichabod being nowhere to be seen simply because he has nothing to do, alongside there technically not being a Grand Emperor at the moment, has been delaying the necessity of that.
This may actually be a good reason explaining why Ichabod’s ceremony was flubbed, the Black Hole Invaders are trying to setup a situation where they have a few different Grand Emperors to be managed by the God Emperor when they’re put into a position of power. Ichabod, specifically, was hoped to become a manager for the God Emperor.
You know, I’m finding myself dangerously intrigued by the possibility of exploring this as an actual story instead of just a series of lore jokes…
Again? I either need to stop giving you ideas, or ask for confirmation that you’re writing them down somewhere.
Oh, it’s written down in my big “do this one of these days” document. The more I think about it, though, it feels like a Killer Station of Deadly Doom-style TWC side story rather than a main comic tale.
Exactly how long is that “do this one of these days document” by now? 😀
