page 1203 – fun with focus
HELLO FROM THE PAST! Yes, believe it or not, I’ve actually managed to get a page finished early enough to queue it up ahead of time! And if you know anything about me, you know that only happens when I’m going someplace. That, or you just read that big long spiel I left on last week’s page that explains I’m away visiting relatives this week. Don’t worry, I’ve also got the extra Thanksgiving page done in advance, and as I write this I’m working on getting page 1204 done as well. Provided I don’t die from turkey poisoning, we should make it all the way to December without any disruption to the update schedule.
That aside, on to the comic: May is not one of my favorite characters to write, but she it becoming one of my favorite characters to draw. There’s just something about this kid that makes her especially well-suited for supremely derpy expressions.
Actually, I suspect that Trigger would be a heat-sink for May’s problematic behaviour. Mostly because nobody, not even Blitz (the author) would allow May to traumatize Trigger. The only thing that can traumatize Trigger are things that have an inherently scary appearance, like Xal-Gox and the out-of-date-but-still-used cultural face-monsters of that one planet that prevents the locals from being poisoned by the air.
I dunno, we DID literally start this whole comic off with Trigger’s whole world being shattered, so he’s not THAT safe. (Now, Alphonse, on the other hand, is not allowed to have ANYTHING bad happen to him)
Sure, but that was a “everything you knew, excusing the one person you met, was a lie” revelation that kick started the story. Basically it was before Trigger was properly introduced, and when everything was completely in flux. Trigger’s now a fairly set character, set at about the emotional age of an 8 year old, and traumatising him would take setup to work, setup that doesn’t suit the story.
