page 1182 – coming soon to a terrible t-shirt shop near you
Well, I guess it’s a good thing I went ahead and predicted this page wouldn’t QUITE make the regularly scheduled Monday update, because I went and did a risky, self-indulgent thing I haven’t done for a while now… and no, I don’t mean draw Layla in something skimpy. I mean, this wasn’t supposed to even be a page. As planned, the next page was supposed to cut straight to Layla already changed into her new, non-messy outfit and on her way back. It was all outlined and everything. And then, at pretty much the very last moment possible, I got hit by this idea to re-do that one page where Layla can’t decide what to wear only with a gimmicky animated frame and way, waaaaaaay weirder clothing choices. The weirdest thing is, even with the added headache of including the animation (which I had to go back and re-do literally in the middle of writing this because one of the frames had an error I hadn’t noticed last night) there’s still a very real possibility that this wound up taking LESS time than the originally planned page would have. So look forward to THAT next time!
And that’s gonna be extra fun because I’ll also be doing an extra page on Sunday for Independence Day. That’s right, I finally remembered to hype a holiday page in advance, for once! Will it be as Wall Of Text heavy as last year’s page? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! …and we’ll also have to wait and see if doing an extra comic means page 1183 gets pushed back a day or two. It all depends on how much time everything takes, so watch the author’s comments on that one to see what’s up.
OH! And regarding all these stupid T-Shirts Layla’s browsing through, long-time readers probably already know about Bug Boy being from that old Point Me At The Sky comic I keep saying I’m going to revive one day (though don’t ask me what’s up with the birthday cake, I was kind of just making things up as I drew them). What you may NOT know is that the pink shirt isn’t just some random bootleg Eevee. That’s actually Mahoumon, one of the fan Digimon I had on my old Geocities site back in the day. Apparently Layla’s T-shirt collection digs DEEP into my backlog of old abandoned projects. Next thing you know, she’s be walking around wearing one of my old Mega Man sprite comics…
It would help you get dressed faster. Choosing clothes is another story, particularly if you’re looking through the “Graphic Prints” section of the clothing options for something that looks good AND comfortable, rather than something that’s just comfortable.
…well now I’m just imagining Tabitha building a machine that actually WOULD dress Layla more quickly, and all the ways in which that could go wrong.
Honestly, I thought that the hair dryer that Layla’s sitting under was a device that Tabitha made that would manifest clothes around the person sitting underneath it when they make a decision about what to wear on the tablet. I hadn’t actually read the warning sticker, simply expecting it to be the standard FOT “Beware of Tintacratic Radiation resulting in potential temporary colour changes”.
Tintacratic Radiation is something that I just made up, only really affects light, but messes with colouration of a person of object for a period of time if a person’s exposed to it for long enough. Specific side effects vary depending on intensity and duration of exposure, but it has been used to imitate hair dyes for fancy events, and is a direct by-product of numerous products used in clothing production galaxy wide, for dyes and images. All while actually being completely safe, excusing the odd visual side effects that aren’t always wanted.
Well, now I have to add Tintacratic Radiation to the list of phrases to slip into a comic at some point (it’ll probably have to be related to Multimodal Reflection Sorting)
At which point I may end up coming up with a new explanation for what it is, having forgotten about it in the meantime.
Heck, that’s pretty much how I wind up writing half the time…
