This would have been the simplest cover to do yet, if I hadn’t had to keep stepping away for hours at a time to work on website stuff (gawk at my embarrassing experiments HERE) Less is definitely more with this one.
Fun fact: Dr. Jarre’s head being cut in half like that was sort of an accident, but it wound up looking WAY better than my original plan. That’s how it usually goes with mad science, isn’t it?
(Historical Notes: That probably requires a little context. I originally drew only one half of Delia’s head with the intention of mirroring the drawing, thus creating a symmetrical image of her face. I’m not sure when it hit me that the “half-face on one side, title on the other” arrangement made for a more striking box cover… but it totally does.)
The half-face is regularly used on movie posters just for that striking effect regularly, after all, especially if the face can be both recognisable and vague at the same time.
