Dang. You do NOT wanna know how long it took do do all that shading with my dinky Photoshop rig. I had a sort of Rembrandt thing in mind, what with really dramatic lighting and heavy shadow and whatnot. It didn’t quite turn out the way I’d imagined (oh, big surprise THERE), but I still think this is some of the best shadow work I’ve ever done.

And, just for the record, Ichabod’s totally right about angels and wings.

(Historical Note: This is another page that would have been WILDLY easier to do if I knew about transparencies and gradients at the time.  Also, apparently Layla and Avatar’s hair are somehow light sources, because I SEVERELY slacked off on the shadows there)
