page 1251 – a very Far Out There comic
There’s a delicate balancing act in depicting Grumpy Layla and Happy Layla, especially where her relationships with others are concerned. I still don’t think I have that act down yet.
Okay, so here’s the schedule for the coming weeks, as much so I can see myself writing it out in front of me as it is for other people to read: Obviously, we have page 1251 going up today. On Thursday Nov 24th, we’ll have a special extra page for Thanksgiving. On Friday Nov 25th, there’ll be a new TWC Voting Incentive. NEXT Tuesday, the 28th, will be page 1252, the last regular page for a while. Next Thursday will be Dec 1st, which means the start of another twenty-five days of Christmas comics! …and then another new Voting Incentive will go up on the 2nd. I’m, uh, gonna be a bit busy over the next few days, huh? Don’t worry, I’ve gotten a decent head start on the Christmas stuff already, so HOPEFULLY I’ll have the bulk of it done before the 1st. Obviously, I’d LIKE to have the whole thing done by then, but just as long as I’m over half-way there, it’ll be manageable.
OH! And just as a heads up, I’ll also have some free Far Out There Christmas stuff going up on Patreon across December too, so be sure to keep an eye out for alerts on that!
Tabitha just likes playing dress-up, and doesn’t have boundaries on who she’s willing to do it with. Layla finds adorable things irresistibly adorable. These two fact sometimes cross, but it mostly only occurs with Alphonse. Because Bridget likes her tough girl looks to much to be adorable.
There’s kind of a Parent/Grandparent dynamic at work here, where Alphonse isn’t actually Layla’s responsibility like Trigger, so she doesn’t have as much to worry about.
There’s also the fact that “Protecting the innocent from Tabitha’s machinations” loses to “Tabitha’s responsible for looking after Alphonse as his parental figure” every time. As for Layla’s own actions, I suspect that if it was seen as problematic by either Tabitha or Alphonse, she’d stop doing things like this.
What I’m not certain about is what would happen if Bridget wanted Layla to stop doing things like this to Alphonse, without it affecting whether Tabitha was accepting of it. Part of that is “How would Bridget get Layla to understand that without causing physical injury that could create a war-like environment between them”, and part of it is “If Bridget starts feeling that strongly about how Layla was interacting with Alphonse, why isn’t whatever is causing this attitude affecting how either Alphonse or Tabitha is responding to it”.
Thankfully, this shouldn’t ever be an issue. There hasn’t been a convenient place to depict it so far, but Bridget likes Layla largely BECAUSE she’s always so nice to Alphonse. It’s just, ya know, she’s got an image of coolness to maintain.
Bridget is a good and caring sister, who just so happens to enjoy looking and acting like a cool rocker chick.
Not sure if her taste in music matches that look, be it the Earth or FOT version, but she at very least likes the look. Bridget just needs someone innocently praising how cool she looks on a regular basis, like how Layla innocently praises how adorable Alphonse looks.
…Probably with less hugs, though, simply because Cute Looks Attract Glomps, unlike Cool Ones.
…unless Tabitha’s the one doing the hugs. She’s okay with that.
