Far Out There

Writing dialog of THE FUTURE is kind of hard when you don’t expect it to be. I kept wanting to have Ichabod and Sophia talk about “phones” in this page, even though a wall-mounted video communication device clearly ISN’T a phone. On the other hand, I didn’t want to make up some futuristic-sounding slang word because those never sound realistic (I remember a classic Battlestar Galactica where Starbuck used the word “turboshower” as a verb)

…speaking of Sophia, part of the humor in her last line will be lost on people other than myself who realize that she doesn’t look any older than Avatar. Video screens aren’t good for communicating that a character is a short little squirt. I’d hoped that the message would come across just through the fact that she LOOKS like a little girl, but let’s face it, every character I’ve ever drawn looks twelve…
