page 920 – please don’t interrupt
This sort of thing really should have happened right after Tabitha arrived on the ship, but in an explanation that works both in universe AND in real life, there was already too much stuff going on. By this point, I think things have calmed down enough that the Cap’n can take at least a short break from his captainly duties to be overprotective. Because I don’t think we get to see nearly enough of these two interacting.
So, that last panel kind of annoys me, because I had to move everybody’s heads around a lot to fit all the characters and word balloons around each other. As a result, Tabitha looks a god bit shorter than Cap’n Crosby, even though it’s been established elsewhere that they’re just about the same height. I dunno, I’m probably just feeling grumpy over the fact that I came up with a neat new shirt design for Tabitha to wear, and for two pages in a row now we’ve only seen her from the shoulders up. How am I supposed to hype T-shirt designs no one will ever actually buy THAT way?
Anyway, I’ve once again posted an update a good twelve hours late. Gee, could that mean that today’s Voting Incentive once again involved me getting carried away experimenting with lighting and shading tricks? YOU BET IT DOES!
(Historical Notes: The jokes on you, Past Me, I don’t think I ever actually got around to offering that design on the store anyway.)
@hovertext: Somehow, I feel like if that actually happened, Tabitha would just shrug, ad-lib the entire speech despite lack of clothing, bow and walk off stage, and not really be bothered by it at all like any normal sane person would. Assuming she even noticed something was out of the ordinary to begin with.
re: Tabitha being drawn shorter than the Cap’n. Normally, if someone grabs the top of your head suddenly from behind, the instinctive reaction is to shrink down to try to escape from it – so that’s why she looks shorter.
re: Cap’n being overprotective of Avatar. Proof that FOT can somehow make even a grumpy, crusty old curmudgeon like the Cap’n seem adorable. Though it does still feel weird using that word to refer to him. But it is adorable, though. Even though the Cap’n would absolutely deny that it was.
I remember hearing somebody talk about Gamagori’s inconsistent height in Kill la Kill, and saying that, actually, his size in entirely consistent throughout the entire show. His height is TALLER THAN YOU. I think Cap’n Crosby probably has a bit of that intimidation factor going for him.
Also, you’re totally right about Tabitha. In a different comic, she’d probably have an embarrassing (to other people) habit of forgetting to wear clothes in the first place because she was busy thinking about something else.
