page 9 – When Exposition Attacks
Original note – Feb 22, 2008
Gosh. Text much? Well, at least the shading was quick on this one.
There’s a lot of Douglas Adams in Trigger’s backstory. I love the wild, unfathomable chains of events that result in so many Hitchhiker’s Guide jokes, and hopefully I was able to capture some of that here. However, I also hope I managed to avoid capturing the cosmic absurdism that drives most of Adam’s work. That I love less.
(Historical Note: I was going to say I hate the walls of text even less, but somehow this Officially Designated Wall of Text Page actually seems LESS wordy than the regular ones. At least, it’s less crowded)
The only part of this that’s implausible is the idea of politicians fleeing in disgrace after having been proven completely and totally wrong. (As opposed to either continuing to insist they were correct despite evidence, or “spinning” it that they predicted this result all along and were just misunderstood.) As if it’s that easy to get rid of politicians.
Oh, the politicians stayed right where they were. The people who skedaddled off-planet were all activists and protesters and underground terrorist types.
Besides, the politicians needed to stick around to enjoy the newly sunny climate during their vacations!
OK, that makes sense. Activists and protesters and terrorists hate being anywhere where they don’t have anything to be activist and protest and terrorize about. I’m sure they’re off causing problems on some other planet(s) now.
