Far Out There

There’s a bit of a personal joke in that last panel (which could possibly qualify as a “production gag”?) For a while now, I’ve thought it’d be funny if Tabitha thought awful, disgusting monster abominations were cute and cuddly. Problem is, she’s always got Bridget and Alphonse around, and we know Alphonse is terrified of those things. It’d be wildly out of character for Tabitha to act happy about something that frightening her little boy, so Layla’s imagine spot is probably as close as we’ll get to seeing that particular quirk.

Speaking of which, I like the way Tabitha keeps referring to Mad Scientists like “those other people who are obviously totally different from me”. Layla, obviously, has no problem lumping her in with the rest.

One last little thing: Bridget peeking over Tabitha’s shoulder is TOO CUTE. For a while, I was struggling with ways to keep Bridget in the action, since there’s not much for her to do in this situation. But you know what? She doesn’t really need to “do” anything. Just being there as Mommy’s Lil’ Sidekick is adorable enough.

OH! And there’s a new Voting Incentive too! Gotta get back in the habit of announcing that!
