Holy expletive on a stronger expletive, this is the latest all-nighter I’ve pulled for the comic in a VERY long time (it’s, like 5:50 AM as I write this), and I wish I was happier about what I have to show for it. I know I say this a lot, but I’m just not that happy with how this page turned out, especially since it’s supposed to be the explosive climax of everything. For one thing, cramming all this into one page was a mistake. The first three panels (Claire’s climactic boomshot) should have been one page, and the OH CRAP LOOK AT THE GIANT HOLE VORTEX THING moment should have had a whole page to itself. The extra space probably would have also allowed for a lot more detail, which is the other thing I’m not happy about here. This is just a messy page, and that’s AFTER hours of cleaning up the line art. The first and third panels in particular are pretty embarrassing to look at.

But you know what the worst part is? I have no one to blame for myself. It’s been an absurdly crazy couple of days (involving everything from mysterious internet problems to a bachelor party) and I did the worst time management possible given the circumstances. Heck, I actually blew a whole night that SHOULD have been spent on this page tinkering with a freaking bit of Digimon fanart (though, in my own defense, it did turn out quite nicely) If I can’t be bothered to start work on a page early enough to to proper quality control, I’ve got no business complaining about the results. Or wasting your time by making you suffer through it, for that matter… I’m just rambling, at this point. NEED SLEEP…

(Historical Notes: I’ve warmed up to this page a lot over the years.  I see what Past Me is unhappy about, and that probably would have been better, the look of this page is still really appealing to me.  I like the interaction between the lettering and the action, and the whole thing just has this sort of old-fashioned poster vibe I really like.  Oh, and the panels don’t waste a third of the page on being weirdly shaped.  That helps too.)
