page 1283 – Please Quit Saying That
I’m not sure WHICH of the is tempting fate worse here, but they should both absolutely know better by know.
Okay, so I said I was gonna scramble to get this page done before I headed out to Otakon, and… well, I got more done than I honestly expected to. But it wasn’t done, and if you’re reading this on Tuesday morning, it still isn’t. Honestly, it’s a bit of a miracle I even got it as partially done as it is. I was EXTREMELY close to just throwing a note onto the bottom of page 1284 announcing that this one would be a day late, that’s how tired I still am after the con. Buuuuuuuut then I juuuuuust barely managed to pull myself together enough to at least get some word bubbles up and make things technically readable. So come back in a day or so, and there should be a fully finished version in place of this coloring book one.
In the meantime, there’s a bed over there I haven’t even REMOTELY finished getting reacquainted with yet…
EDIT: There! Finished version of page 1283 is up! And what’s more, there SHOULD finally be a new set of TWC Voting Incentives starting on Friday! I say “should” because, you know, I’ve also got a mountain of Otakon material to dig myself out from under for Conventional Wisdom. Thus, it is entirely possible that I could lose track of what day it is, realize what’s up on Saturday morning, and only get the Incentive posted later in the weekend. But is IS going to start up at SOME point this week. For real. Seriously. I’m really itching to finally get this thing started.
8/2 EDIT: NEW TOP WEBCOMIC VOTING INCENTIVE SERIES STARTING RIGHT THE HECK NOW! Yeah, I actually wound up getting it done well ahead of schedule, and it just seemed silly to sit on the thing for a couple days. GENERALLY speaking, the future TWC stuff should be coming out on Fridays from now on, though. But yeah! FINALLY! And best of all, these aren’t JUST silly doodles or anything, but actual story-relevant content! …well, maybe “relevant” is too strong a word, but it’s all canonical!
8/8 EDIT: That is entirely too many added notes, but I’m afraid it’s unavoidable. I got hit with some VERY late-onset con crud over the weekend, right when I was supposed to be getting page 1284 put together… and as a result it’s still not put together. Seriously, as I write this at 1am, this thing isn’t even inked yet. And from the looks of things, I don’t think this page is the kind I can pull the “Just Post The Line Art” trick with. Like, it’s not exactly effects-heavy, but it IS the kind of page where the line art doesn’t really resemble what the final draft will be. There’s a lot of putting the pieces together in post that’ll need to happen. All that to say, this time I really AM pushing the page back a day. If page 1283 gets done this Tuesday at all, it’ll be so close to Wednesday by that point that you might as well not worry about checking back here until then anyway. Sorry! I really hate pulling this crap!
…Stillez just seems to be someone… more competent in a standard manner in panel 2 than she normally does. I’ve mentally pigeon-holed her into having the physical capabilities to fight a god, and the mental capabilities of a small child. Panel 2 seems like the attitude AND line of a obnoxious, and fully adult, I-Choose-To-Solve-Everything-With-Violence-And-Know-It character, back-talking one of their allies who is upset with their constant hi-jinx.
Yes, technically Stillez can be argued to fit that definition. But she’s always seemed to be less adult and choosing-violence, and more ignorant and not-noticing-other-options-than-violence.
Oh, worry not. This will be acknowledged shortly 🙂
To be fair, this more coherent/obnoxious Stilez does sound very much like she sounded when we very first met her waaaaay back near the beginning, on the space station with the recycled meat undies incident. Ichabod, I expect, would attribute this apparent Taming of the Stilez over time to the Tax Effect – which it seems is not just a linear decrease, but varies based on circumstance. In this case, probably threatening her directly (which probably does not happen often, or at least nobody survives to report it) triggered a reversion to her earlier state.
And she did at one time have enough coherence to abduct select specific Christmas related Celebs from various parts of the galaxy so the purpose of creating an idealized Christmas for Tax, which, while not exactly the sanest action anyone has ever done, certainly takes planning and coherent understanding of the nature of an idealized Christmas, somewhat of a vague concept, so she can turn on the “intelligent Stilez” personality when she needs to, it would seem.
…or, possibly, when certain external stimuli provoke it.
