page 1214 – So many freakin’ introductions
Well, it’s not as late as I was afraid it was going to be, but this page is still later than I wanted. Sorry about that. Now, on to more of the real star of Far Out There.
For those who are really paying attention to this sort of thing, this TECHNICALLY isn’t the first time Avatar has been on the same page as the boys, but much like when Bridget “met” them the first time, they were a little too preoccupied for introductions.
Also, I should be clear that it’s not the dog in the tube speaking that second line of dialog. That speech bubble placement is a bit unfortunate, or hilarious, depending on how you look at it.
Finally, as is usually the case, I threw that warning sign in just to fill in some empty space, and it turned out to be the single funniest thing on the whole page. My creative process continues to be flawless.
EDIT: Later than I’d like, but there’s a new TWC Voting Incentive up!
“it’s not the dog in the tube speaking that second line of dialog.”
Really? Darn. I think it would have been funnier if it was and nobody batted an eye at that happening (until I read that line in the commentary, I thought it was the dog speaking). However, introducing these boys as “Layla’s boys” still has potential for humorous misunderstanding.
Now I just want to put a label on one of Tabitha’s sciency thingies that says “WARNING: This thing does not actually talk. If it sounds like it’s talking to you, just ignore it.”
Fun bonus “Make Silly Rules Because I Can” time! The reason why people would think that the thing is talking to them is due to a mental-dissonance-wave emanating from the machine, and the vague appearance of something that might make speech-sound (like an animal or human head). What is actually happening is that there’s a dissonance created between some of your thoughts, which allow for the less pressing or more consistent thoughts that are being ignored be brought to the forefront and interpreted as “speech”. This means that what you are actually “hearing” are the thoughts that you normally ignore, such as self-doubt or, in Layla’s case, whatever makes her feel weakest at the moment in question. I have NO idea what Trigger would hear, and Avatar, assuming that the mental-dissonance-wave was capable of affecting her in any way, would likely hear a whole bunch of facts that she already knows.
And it theoretically COULD be possible for Avatar to be affected, because it doesn’t do anything that could be considered more damaging than her normal day-to-day learning processes. Which we know affect her because she has to be able to learn things, even minor things such as Trigger’s & Layla’s Name.
Perhaps, but her brain is the “fastest, most powerful, and memory-holding-est computer ever” by her own description, designed as the penultimate purpose of the entire universe by a cabal of the brilliantest maddest scientists ever – I would hope it couldn’t be hacked that easily! At the very least I would expect it runs on Linux and not Windows 94283.0 (“Now with even more features nobody needs or wants, but still chock full of security holes! And as an added bonus, we’ve stopped supporting Windows 94282 to force you into an unneeded and expensive upgrade! –Space Micro$oft”)
Based on Tax’s apparent prescience, I’m concerned for whichever member of teen boy squad she’s pointing at saying “your back is really big”. Maybe one of them will just be ripped later in life, but somehow I’m suspicious.
Honestly, I just meant her to be pointing at Tarkus’ backpack, but you’re not wrong to ask questions about whatever Tax says.
