So, you wondering why the big middle panel looks so rough and not-shaded-in? Well, the artsy-fartsy excuse is that I thought a sketchy, doodle-like style would preserve the slapstick humor of the sequence, whereas a fully detailed approach would just make it seem sadistic and cruel. That’s the excuse. The TRUTH is, I once again failed to start work on this page until the very last minute, and skimping on the detail meant that I’d get done a few hours sooner. (For the record, my distraction THIS time was finding the giant Gorillaz biography “Rise of the Ogre” for a mere 8 bucks and HAVING to read it straight through before doing anything else)

Anyway, artistic laziness aside, this was a really fun page to draw because there was no rough draft. Originally, this was just the lower half of page 118, but that would have been WAY too crowded. Granted, I’m not sure how well the “Rejected” parody in the bottom right corner really fits the general tone of this comic, but it was still really fun to just cut loose and go nuts for a bit.
