The joke here was supposed to be that, unlike every schlocky cop show/movie ever where the chief is constantly shouting at the main character, here it’s Astrid constantly shouting a totally reserved and level-headed superior… but then it occurred to me that Miami Vice basically already did that “joke” played one hundred percent straight, so oh well. Lt. Barbell did wind up named “Somlo” as a warped reference to Edward James Olmos out of all that, though. There’s a whole other reference lurking in this page too, but I want to see if anybody can pick it out without help.
….or….I only take off 3 times as many days because I’m super rich, I do this as a hobby, and so cutting my pay or firing me really is not any incentive to me

And they can’t complain, because ALL of her leave is unpaid leave, so she’s literally saving them money by taking them. The only issue is that their effectiveness drops about three stages of quality when the one competent person takes a break.
…which is also beneficial to the department, as it means she hasn’t raised the expectations for their abilities beyond their capability to actually deliver.
