Avi seems like the kind of kid who’d deliberately turn down an invitation to a party specifically so he could show up “unexpectedly” …and also turn down his friends’ invitations on their behalf. Also, Tarkus seems to be loosening up about going outside in winter weather. That’s a WAY less extreme amount of layers than what he had on last year!
The list of suspects of who might have given Avi intentionally very wrong directions to the middle of nowhere is a very long list.
I’m going to guess Mariska, as she knew he would show up uninvited and did not want her job of having to supervise them to interfere with her usual Christmas party excessive binge drinking.
I’m now imagining Mariska giving May wrong directions to the party, knowing she’d clueless blab it to Avi either way, so Mariska might as well make use of it.
