page 1255 – cutting edge technology
Okay, not gonna lie, this is another one of those “I just started drawing without much plan” pages. I just had the vague idea of a fancy, futuristic scifi container holding a comically plain box, and then thought “what if she just threw it?” Boom. Page accomplished. That said, I do kind of wish the top panel had been more elaborate, with more intricate space-age tech and tubes and wires everywhere, but for once I actually noticed ahead of time that this would take a LOT of time to finish stuff that’d almost certainly end up covered by text balloons.
Oh, and speaking of devoting time and effort to stuff that wouldn’t end up getting used, there’s a special Patreon blog up now discussion some extra Far Out There comics that never wound up seeing the light of day! If you’re not already, so become a patron an witness some outtakes!
EDIT: It’s way late, but there’s finally a new TWC Voting Incentive up! Now, it’s late ‘cos I’ve been wiped out with a cold lately, but I think you’ll understand that this particular piece was going to end up being late either way. I kinda got… carried away in a few places…
The box is surprisingly sturdy, surprisingly soft for something that sturdy, and filled with edible & tasty paper streamers that pop out of each layer when the outermost layer of the box inevitably gets destroyed. Outermost layer because the box actually has 6 different layers, each with a different set of flavoured paper streamers.
The 6 Layers of boxes & flavour sets is why it’s the “Ultimate Stilez Distraction Kit”, instead of the “Decent Stilez Distraction Kit”, along with the softness that ensures Tax can’t be injured by it.
So that’s your prediction of the contents of the box? I’m going to predict that the box is empty.
The box contains a distraction, meaning that reality itself gets preoccupied by something else before it has a chance to exit withing the box.
I’m kidding, of course. They clearly store that in The Mystery Room instead.
They could store a fragment of a distraction in the box. Or they could store the entire distraction in the box, and use The Mystery Room as a method to distract from the distraction in the box.
Third option, they store a Distraction (capital “D” for it affecting not only everyone but also reality itself) in the box, while The Mystery Room stores a Mystery (capital “M” for the same reason as previous). This second option could allow for Layla to enter The Mystery Room, go on a series of adventures based on something she found in there, and still have no idea what’s in The Mystery Room five minutes after leaving.
