Happy Daylight Savings Time 2021!
I was worried that this would be one of the more “region locked” holiday pages I’ve done, but upon closer inspection it looks like enough of the English-speaking world have SOME form of Daylight Savings Time that the underlying gag should still come across. Then again, the idea to even do a page like this at all was so last minute, about five hours between having the notion and getting it online, that it’s a miracle it’s even legible, never mind if it’s funny or not.
But that’s another thing: I REEEAAALLY did not expect to be doing another holiday filler page before the regular updates started up again. Sorry about yet ANOTHER delay, guys. To reiterate what I already said over on Patreon, I really really REALLY needed to go ahead and get the Character profiles re-drawn and online before throwing myself fully into new pages. That was the top of the list of things I never managed to update on the old site, so I kinda sorta HAD to go ahead and take care of it before locking myself into a regular update schedule again. I mean, this was over SEVENTY new profile pics that needed drawing, dang it! As I write this, MOST of the profile stuff is already on the site, and while I still need to fine tune some layout stuff, the hard stuff should be done in the next day or two. After that, all the OTHER stuff that needs doing is stuff I can do while working on comics. And yes, I really AM working on actual new comics.
I’m willing to give him a pass on such minor infractions as General Mayhem and Wanton Destruction, Creating Horrific Abominations of Nature, and Attempting to Destroy Entire Planets, but arbitrarily making everyone get up an hour early in the morning every year for absolutely no flippin’ reason: That’s a plan so hideously, unspeakably Evil that only a true Madman could dream it up!!
(can you tell I’m not a fan of DST? or mornings in general.)
I don’t mind mornings, it’s the waking up part I can’t stand.
upvote!
If you just stay up from the day before, mornings are just fine, because you don’t have that nasty “waking up” part to ruin them.
With me, my sleep cycle is just a few hours too long in general, so I kind of drift from appearing to be “a morning person” to “a night owl” every couple of weeks, even though it’s not “really” either. I actually really like being up super early and getting a head start on the day… IF my body feels like doing it on its own. But if I have to rely on an alarm to FORCE me up, it’s automatically horrible because I hate being woken up at ANY time.
As someone who lives in a Tropical Region without Daylight Saving’s Time, I don’t understand Daylight Savings Time, particularly for the regions that prefer it. Sure, it has the “gives an extra hour of daylight” argument, but it’s primarily used in during Summer in regions where the Suns out for an extra 4 or more hours a day in Summer. The only place that should still daylight near 11 pm is close to the north and south poles, during their Summers.
Basically, I blame the Placebo Effect for people thinking that Daylight Savings is a good idea.
yup, that’s pretty much it.
although I can’t rule out the possibility of Evil Mad Science being involved.
It’s one of those situations where the perceived difficulty of actually changing/getting rid of a thing exceeds the annoyance of continuing to do a thing that nobody really likes.
That’s the annoying thing, some people do like it. I still think it’s the Placebo Effect that makes them like it, but I know someone who went to live in England for a few years, and came back with the opinion that Daylight Savings was a great thing.
Hell, if you flipped around the seasons, and give the “extra daylight” during Winter, I would at least understand it. Having more people up for daylight during the time of year when sunlight’s presence is at it’s least makes sense to me. Doing it the way it’s done, however, giving “extra daylight” during Summer, especially when there’s already a few extra hours of daylight in the regions that adopt this process, just doesn’t make sense to me.
