page 693 – EXPLOSIVE CLIFFHANGER
SURPRISE! IT’S A STILEZ AND TAX STORY NOW! What, you didn’t think Skye was the the ONLY forgotten secondary character this storyline would bring back, did you? But yeah, THIS is what you’ve got to look forward to in the new year, kiddies: EXPLOSIVE AMAZONIAN CATGIRL ACTION!
You guys better enjoy this page, too, ‘cos it was MURDER to get done. Having to start over from scratch due to a power outage is NOT fun, ya’ll. Also, dramatic poses and angles and crap continue to be my nemesis, and getting used to characters I haven’t drawn in a while didn’t help matters. Speaking of which, eagle-eyed readers will notice the details on Stilez’s plugsuit have changed yet again (well, they will now that I mentioned it). This is one of those things where I love the basic idea (the implication being she never bothered to get rid of the sciency-suit she had on when she escaped the lab) but can’t for the life of me get the details to where I like ’em. Skintight jumpsuits just aren’t the kind of costume I have much experience in. Heck, just look at how often Layla’s containment suit spontaneously changed.
And in the meantime, get ready for a metric crap-ton of Christmas comics starting NEXT MONDAY! Twenty-five days straight of holiday silliness unbound by the laws of canon and narrative logic! ENJOY!
Unfortunately, what I WON’T have to offer next month is the new Voting Incentive series. Oh, there’ll still be new incentives Tuesday and Friday, but they’ll still be random doodles like today’s new Incentive. I’m not gonna launch the new story until I have a decent number of pages already drawn. The way this past week went, that wasn’t happening (see above) But hey, lots and lots of silly Christmas pages! That’s neat, right? See ya Monday!
(Historical Notes: I’ve said it before, I will keep saying it forever, this is EASILY the best cliffhanger in Far Out There history. I normally can’t time these breaks out to coincide with ANY plot developments, let alone one that’s this much of a tease for the future. And man, even I didn’t realize just how MUCH of the future this was setting up. It’s crazy to think about how much time has passed, isn’t it? Also, I love how Past me is already complaining about Stilez’s plug-suit, which would eventually result in me changing her whole design… to something that takes even LONGER to draw and has even MORE details I can’t keep straight!)
Aieeeeee! Its the SINGLE MOST DANGEROUS LIVING BEING IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!!!
And Stilez, her adorable playful kitten sidekick, is here also!!
This is so true.
Seriously, new readers: Keep an eye on Tax. Quite possibly the only serious threat to the combined forces of Ichabod and Avatar.
Admittedly, a significant amount of her danger comes from her relation with Stilez, the most indestructible weapon of potential mass destruction, and her ability to completely ignore common sense and people’s words.
Well, to be fair, completely ignoring common sense isn’t THAT out of the ordinary in Far Out There 🙂
It’s all relative, some are still worse than others.
If Tax and Aunt Domino have a conversation, all players within hearing range immediately automatically fail their Sanity Check, and take 100 points per round of San damage until out of earshot. Once out of earshot, continue to take a decreased amount of San damage per round due to memory of the conversation, until such time as brain bleach can be applied. **Mad Scientist and Nitpicker job classes may take reduced damage due to having built up some resistance. Stilez is immune, since she only understands every 10th word anyway.
Incidentally, I now realize that FOT really needs to have its own tabletop RPG invented.
Depends on what you mean by “common sense”. Everyone we’ve met tends to follow FOT’s internal common sense, with a few exceptions. Like how Trigger follows our common sense, how Tax and Aunt Domino completely disregard the concept of common sense (for different reasons), or how Stilez doesn’t have a concept of what common sense is. Everyone else has SOME level of internal-continuity of Common Sense that matches the FOT Universe, even the Mad Scientists.
Actually, if anything, ESPECIALLY the Mad Scientists, though I have no idea how they’re able to discover ways that twists reality to their whims in ways that send them MAD, and still have better social graces (when it doesn’t come to their technology) than some of the repeating characters.
I feel like there’s some old quote about the difference between “common” sense and “actual” sense that would probably be appropriate here if I could remember how it goes.
I’m reminded of an issue of Deadpool that opens with Wolverine stalking through a forest (I think), when he gets shot with about a half-dozen tranquilizer darts. As he starts blacking out, Deadpool stands over him and says “Hey! Logan! Buddy! It’s me! Deadpool! I shot you!”
i actually assumed the tax-avatar scene was a reference to that. i couldn’t remember exactly where it was from but i remembered it has something to do with deadpool and , but i couldn’t find it on the internet, so i thought maybe i was imagining it!!
I didn’t intend it to be a reference to that, but it HAS been pointed out to me that they’re basically the same joke, and far be it from me to argue with Deadpool.
They say great minds think alike!
I’m not sure if that’s comparing you to Deadpool’s writers, or comparing Tax to Deadpool? Hmmm…Stilez has been compared to Wolverine in terms of healing ability, etc. in comments in the past, maybe we are onto something here? Tax’s abilities include 4th wall awareness?
And on a completely unrelated note: Your comicad banner ad space has been bid up to $0.21! That’s big money for a hiatusing webcomic! (or at least the highest I’ve ever noticed it)
I’ve honestly noticed that Comicad bids have been consistently higher than Project Wonderful ever was, and I don’t know anywhere NEAR enough about the economics of internet advertising to speculate on how or why.
