The Nitpickers Guild Christmas Party 2020 – page 20
There’s no WAY I’m good enough to have planned this out on purpose, but this comic about Christmas specials on outdated media is going up the morning after I posted a blog on Patreon all about homemade Christmas VHS tapes (even though it’s on Patreon, you don’t need to be a patron to read the Christmas stuff)
Anyway, random trivia about those photo backgrounds: For the most part, any time we see the inside of The Galactic Nitpicker’s Guild HQ, the rooms are cobbled together from pictures of Biltmore Estate. Those framed “pictures” though? Those are assorted covers from Phil Farrand’s Nitpicker’s Guides to Star Trek, from which the whole idea of being a professional nitpicker was obviously taken.
(Historical Notes: Back to the Historical Notes, because I’ve only got a few more pages left where I can even DO these. Gotta enjoy the italics while they last! Anyway, I do kind of wish I’d framed the second panel differently, so we could get some visual gags about the insane lengths Trigger is going through to get all these machines hooked up. This looked a lot messier in my head.)
@ Historical Notes: Those wires would end up tied together by the end of the first movie, even if nobody touches them. That’s where all the mess would come from.
i mean the connectors BETWEEN the wires. As it is, I just drew a bunch of normal looking extension boxes, but I really SHOULD have slipped in a lot of freaky scifi visual gags. Like something with a hundred blinky lights or a huge contraption with vacuum tubes or tape reels or maybe a glass ball with a little blobby creature holding the ends of two cables in its mouth.
Those are in the boxes so that their glowing/moving doesn’t interfere with the television viewing experience.
