The Far Out There Staff Office Christmas Party – page 3
Everyone’s reaction to the sight of snow is entirely appropriate for this part of the world, as is their reaction to other people’s reactions.
Also, please don’t ask me to explain what’s going on with that lights display in the second panel. It just gets more confusing the more you dwell on it.

@ Lights display in second panel – It’s a light store. It has a clear triangular stand with lights on it as an ohmage to a Christmas Tree in it’s window, upon which they added decorations. And there’s also reflections of other bright lights in the glass, making everything look like there’s lights spawning out of nowhere on the glass.
As for worry about frozen water falling from the sky, the people here just keep off the road. Nobody like driving in hail. And if it ever snowed around where I currently live, I would be terrified about what we’ve done to the weather, as it does NOT snow this close to the Tropics.
What’s obscured in the comic is that the “tree” was also wearing a Santa hat… which inspired several surreal jokes at the time, but I’m struggling to remember any of them as I write this a year later (Or, more specifically, as I write this after being up all night finishing up the last of the comics.)
There’s got to be a Philip Freeman reference in there somewhere….like he teaches his kids that Santa is actually a tree, or he’s trying to bioengineer a tree that delivers presents in a sleigh pulled by reindeer, which are also trees
A Nitpicker should know it snowed 6 inches in early December back in 2018 …on that planet that they’re on. So, technically not ‘never’. 😉
Also, I’m trying to figure out why gravitic hovercraft would be bothered by frozen water…must be one of those mad science reasons a civilian like me wouldn’t understand.
That isn’t Comic-Ichabod in panel 1. It’s Actor-Ichabod, who isn’t a Professional Nitpicker, but plays as one for this Webcomic.
A better question to ask is “Why are Alphonse and Bridget are actually green”. I do not have an answer to that, unless this is officially being run for the comic and thus they entered their costumes for theming purposes.
When they’re shown meta like this before, it seems like they’re still the same characters, though. So not like actors, kind of like they play themselves on Reality TV.
I think about it the same way that Shigeru Miyamoto thinks about Mario characters doing stuff out of character in the other games… not very hard.
Update: for even greater irony: they’re actually forecasting snow here for tomorrow morning. So Blitz can run back out and get actual location pics with actual snow falling.
Well, “snow” that’ll probably turn into freezing rain at some point, so not very photogenic
Real snow falling will never look as photogenic as fake added snow. (Fortunately, thanks to AI, nobody in future generations will ever have to see a real photo (or video) of anything ever again!)
Update: against all odds, it actually DID end up snowing for real over here the other night… and of COURSE I was out and about taking pictures before it all had a chance to melt!
