The Far Out There Staff Office Christmas Party – page 21
Because, you know, we don’t have enough rarely-seen mysterious characters yet. Also, I’m really glad this pose didn’t lend itself to trying to do The Kid’s flashy color animation thing. This is the next-to-last page I did this year, and I doubt I would have had it in me to pull off an effect like that without SEVERELY messing it up.

@ Incentive: Dr Jarre is just appreciative of alternative-life children, and is putting off making her own until all the quirks are worked out, or at least she has some doners who volunteered instead of being tricked or forced into the process before death. That is, if she isn’t trying to do something similar with mechanised alternate-life children, instead of biological alternate-life children.
@ Comic: The Kid, nice to have your… giving the attitude thing, I’m going to say brother. Maybe father? Ol’ Mr R should be related to you in some fashion, unless there’s a planned joke about how he has absolutely no relation and neither himself nor Kid recognises why people think they’re in any way similar.
The actual similarity? They both come from theme-worlds, where they try to attract tourism through having a cultural theme that only mildly inconveniences the public living there. The Kid came from one themed around a Detective Noir, forcing people into Trenchcoats, and dark clothing or, if you’re a picturesque woman, bright dresses with revealing cleavages, though her hat was technically optional, and realistically required due to the planet-wide weather tending towards “either raining or overcast, with clear skies once every six months”. Ol’ Mr R, meanwhile, lived/lives on one themed around Westerns, forcing him into a cowboy hat, boots and that poncho.
If neither of them are on their home planet anymore, the reason why they don’t change out of their costumes is due to it feeling embarrassing. Even wearing a T-Shirt and Jeans FEELS exposed enough that they might as well be streaking.
I can already hear his (totally non-copyright-infringing) spaghettiwesternesque theme music playing in the background.
