(Historical Notes: Well now, this is an interesting wrinkle. The only Wayback Machine capture of this page that works is the later-day SmackJeeves one, which saved the Alt Text but doesn’t have the original commentary anymore. And for some reason, the only pre-reformating capture is just an error message saying that the Wayback Machine appears to be a bot and is banned… and to be fair, it probably WAS a bot. But still, this appears to be the first of these Far Out There re-posts where the original commentary is gone for good. Man, I’m STILL kicking myself for not continuing to copy all that stuff last year. As soon as I saw that the new SJ still TECHNICALLY had the old text preserved somewhere, I quit with the copy/pasting and focused entirely on the comics themselves. That’s the higher priority, obviously, but it still bugs me to know that this wouldn’t be an issue if I just hadn’t taken so many breaks last year. I could have said something TOTALLY HILARIOUS in the comments for this page and now we’ll never know!)
I definitely recall that the original author commentary for this page was awesome and inspiring and incredibly profound, but don’t recall exactly the details of said text.
And if the author comment wasn’t already amazing enough, just imagine the unbelievable nuggets of pure awesomeness lost in the reader replies to it! 😉
@current alt text – no, I think the waybacked smackjeeves page alt text really is the correct one that goes with this page. You were pointing out that you had tried to foreshadow the sealant, mentioned by the Cap’n here, on previous pages, but it didn’t work. It’s just appropriately ironic that your note pointing out your previous failure (in foreshadowing) was retroactively the only thing that succeeded in saving.
Ahh yeah, I guess I can see how that could have been what Past Me meant… but it’s pretty darn unclear if even Present Me couldn’t figure out why I was talking about text on the bridge screen on a page that’s doesn’t take place on the bridge.
