page 810 – new wardrobe unlocked
…and this is the part where the thirtysomething guy who wears tie-dyed shirts & pajama bottoms most of the day attempts to guess what a teenage girl in the future would consider “dressing up nice”.
Anyway, I’ve got bad news and lame news. The bad news is, sine I’m squeeking this update out right before I leave for Triad, I wasn’t able to get a new Voting Incentive finished. The LAME news is that I have to emphasize the “finished” part. I DID manage to get a new incentive drawn, it’s scanned into the computer and everything, but there just wasn’t time to color it in and post it (and in my infinite wisdom, the joke for this one is largely color-based, so just slapping text on the grayscale pencil version wouldn’t work) The GOOD news, such as it is, would be that now next Tuesday’s update is guaranteed to have a fresh incentive… which is a good thing, because I totally didn’t get Tuesday’s COMIC drawn in advance this time, so I’ll be playing catch-up as soon as I get home.
Oh, but speaking of playing catch-up, the weekly Patreon comics are FINALLY back on schedule! Yeah, I haven’t been talking about the Patreon stuff all that much lately, mostly because all that MAGFest stuff completely threw everything off schedule. But now the only thing that’s late is that second MadLib comic (which WILL get done as soon as I don’t have 20 other things also screaming for attention)
(Historical Notes: This is another one of those pages where the art bugs me in ways I can’t really fix in post. For one thing, I really shouldn’t have done Layla in full color on this page. I like doing a splash of color when a character puts on a new costume, but seeing as how there’s a much more impactful blast of color on the next page, I really should have just left this alone here. What’s more, I drew Ichabod’s head WAY too big, which kind of ruins the perspective of him being many feet behind Layla and makes her look a lot taller than she’s supposed to be. And, of course, it’s one of those things that’d be way too messy and time consuming to be worth fixing. DANG IT.)
Honestly, I think the colour Layla on this page is fine. It not only pushes how much Layla dressed up, but also showcases how hot she is when she tries. The splash panel in the next page does neither of those things.
Meh, I suppose. Maybe if this page didn’t have the exterior shot up to, and Layla’s reveal was the biggest panel, I’d be more happy with it. As is, I just don’t feel like it’s enough of a TAA DAA moment to make use of the color.
