page 766 – Constructive Feedback
On the one hand, knowing Stilez is around is clearly screwing with Ichabod’s head, which would understandably mess with his ability to think creatively. But on the other hand, I kind of doubt he’d have anything more constructive to say to Layla under even the best circumstances.
So, a couple things: If you check the Other Goodies page, you’ll spot a new link below the Incentive Gallery. It’s the Patreon Gallery! That’s where all the comics that got released to Patreon supporters first will go to be seen by everybody else. There’s already a few comics there, so you can see what all the fuss is about. For the record, though, the time between comics going up on Patreon and here won’t be anywhere NEAR this short in the future. I just wanted to go ahead and get some kind of preview up for the general public. So yeah, go see what the Patreon crowd already saw!
And speaking of Patreon, the NEW Far Out There weekly series just kicked off there! It’s gonna be another long-running side story like The Killer Station of Deadly Doom, and it’d cost you as little as One Dollar A Month to see it!
…and as one new thing starts up, another one ends. Today’s the finale of the “Tabitha makes Layla wear weird costumes” series of Voting Incentives. Truly an epic saga that has touched the hearts and minds of all who read it. What silly and possibly fanservice-heavy idea will I run into the ground next? Tune in Tuesday to find out!
(Historical Notes: Okay, so AGAIN I need to remember to come back and add links to the new Voting Incentive Gallery once it finally gets made. Heck, this page is old enough that the old links weren’t even to the second SmackJeeves site, it was just a single page with links to all the Photobucket files. I don’t even think that page exists anymore. Weird to think about.)

Icahbod, part of the reason why everything you try to do to Stilez fails is due to you being akin to a magnet for her. Every time she leaves, you’ll end up meeting her again in a few months.
Is there a trope akin to “Plot Armor” that’s specifically about a main character’s innate ability to attract plot points towards himself?
Late reply, but it’s an index trope: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PlotMagnet
I think Ichabod might fit under Bully Magnet and/or Nemesis Magnet.
Ichabod is likely a Bully Magnet, but he’s also set himself up to be the Mentor Figure or Facilitator character instead of the Protagonist. This isn’t his story, it’s Trigger’s and maybe Layla’s, and his place is to pay for their travels and attract the attention of headaches just by existing.
I can’t wait to meet Ichabod’s Girlfriend, only to discover that she and Layla have some history from Layla’s Corporate Days! Especially if they end up having similar personalities.
But it was *supposed* to be Ichabod’s story.
He just got bullied out of his own story by Layla.
@ Ed8: You know that he wasn’t bullied out of his own story by Layla. He was just so nonchalant about effectively everything (except Stillez) that it never made sense to pay attention to him. It wasn’t even Layla who took the place that was intended for him, THAT was Trigger!
Layla is perfectly happy to bully Ichabod out of his own story in order to replace him with Trigger. In fact, she probably prefers it. In Layla World, that’s like winning twice.
I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but he idea I’ve been working with from the start was for Ichabod’s place in the story o be a bit like The Doctor in classic Doctor Who: the main character in terms of driving overall story evens, but secondary to his “companions” as far as personal development goes (I dunno how well that analogy holds up in relation to modern Who, I haven’t watched the new stuff in ages)
But of course if we keep up that analogy, Ichabod’s companions would have to be regularly recycled/traded out for new ones…just imagine the uproar if Layla, Trigger, and Avatar got replaced by the Justice Kids. 😮
Bah, at the rate it takes any plot progression to actually HAPPEN in Far Out There, we wouldn’t see that happen for decades any decades anyway.
