Not a whole lot to add to this one, other than HOLY CRAP that woman is terrifying right now. Also, for something I bashed together in a hurry this morning, I really love how the lighting turned out.
What I CAN say more about is the fact that, astonishingly enough, we have a new Voting Incentive today! I shouldn’t have had time to draw anything extra while Conventional Wisdom is still in the works, but this was a strangely therapeutic idea to work with, so I went ahead and did it.
(Historical Notes: Said Voting Incentive was Ichabod building a pillow fort, which wound up provoking much more conversation than the actual comic.)
@ Historical notes: Well, yes, of course an interesting Voting Incentive like that would cause more conversation than this comic. What, are we supposed to talk about how this guy’s supposed to survive or something? No, Ichabod’s Pillow Fort is a much deeper foundation for conversation.
And now, while I can’t remember what Ichabod’s Pillow Fort looked like, am wondering what Trigger’s “Perfect” Pillow Fort would look like. I’m imagining something built up into a castle, armed with pitching machines filled with tennis balls as automated defense turrets.
…but he’d never get a chance to show it off because he couldn’t resist the urge to knock it over just to see everything fall.
Yeah, not every strip lends itself well to discussion. It’s not really any slight on the individual strip itself, some of the best ones are non-discussable.
Still, I’m guessing this is pretty much what Stilez looked like 99% of the time right after she escaped from the Creators (whoever they might have been). Thus leading to much of the reason why she was so feared, but also indicating that Ichabod must be really really brave to have approached her for study for the first time, when everyone else in the entire galaxy with any sense of self-preservation was running away from this incarnation of Death itself, and nobody could even get close enough to take a good video of her and survive. There’s certainly no way I would ever go near THAT (panel 2) if I had any choice! Which, when taken with TKSoDD, confirms my previous theory that, at least in his youth Ichabod was very much a real life Movie Action Hero, even if reluctantly. Layla would never believe it though.
And we HAVE seen glimpses that young Ichabod and Mariska had exciting, Scooby Doo-esque adventures every week!
Exactly! Though I’m somewhat disappointed that they didn’t have some sort of large dog, or doglike animal, or dog-shaped robot along with them on the adventures. As future nitpickers they should have known the dog is obligatory.
Well, we’ve only seen the slightest glimpses of The Adventures Of The Ichabod & Mariska Mystery Squad, we dunno what supporting characters/pets/mascots they may or may not have.
They gained a supporting character/pet/mascot on almost every third to fifth adventure, only to leave them behind at their home/lose it/have it die/have it be responsible for solving either their (or their guardian’s) Nitpicking Adventures. Only Ichabod & Mariska were constant characters.
no, no, they’re scooby-ish, the main cast that stays the same has to include the pet. as far as temporary cast members, after a few years years it seems that on each mystery investigation, they would coincidentally meet some sort of D-list celebrity who would stay with them for the course of the mystery to help (or hinder) them, and who after the mystery was over they would never hear from again. Why this happened is yet another unsolved mystery.
Disclaimer: Any resemblance in The Adventures Of The Ichabod & Mariska Mystery Squad to other works or any persons fact or fictional is purely coincidental.
You’re going FAR too close to the original Scooby-Doo formula. It’s scooby-ish, not a direct parody or outright imitation of Scooby-Doo. Hell, that wouldn’t even work, because the Scooby-Doo Formula is basically “Minor variations on set story”, and we already know that Ichabod and Mariska’s Apprentice Nitpicking Adventures had too much variation for that formula.
I’m thinking that, if actually turned into an animated cartoon, each “season” (assuming a 12 episode season) would have 2 to 4 arcs of varying length. The arcs can vary from being on a single island, to every episode being on different planets (or in outer space), but can be seen to be connected due to their current companion/pet/caretaker/other following them around on screen. The arc ends when said companion/pet/other ends up leaving for various reasons (family left the ship, pet was given up to solve either Ichabod’s & Mariska’s problem, or the Nitpicker they’re training under’s problem, had to leave due to mental health issues arising from trying to keep the kids safe and only managing to endanger themselves, and possibly the kids, in the process).
Basically, I’m thinking it’s less Scooby-Doo, and more Venture Brothers (the later of which I haven’t actually seen, but have heard is Scooby-Doo-esque, though more for adult audiences then children, particularly with all the MC deaths).
Another possibility is that the sidekick could be of the Great Gazoo variety, only showing up at the tail end of the series, in a desperate attempt to revive a concept that’s gone stale.
