page 61 – Some Things Just Take Getting Used To
Original note – June 27, 2008
I mean, seriously. If YOU suddenly had an endless array of wildly bio-engineered and virtually unrecognizable humanity thrust before you, it would take more than one afternoon’s stroll through town for you to just shrug it off without a second glance, right?
I really wanted the main room to look BIG, so most of the wacky humanity ended up being drawn a lot smaller than I would have liked. Still, how’s that little Digimon cameo for an out-of-the-blue reference?
(Historical Note: Man, that just looks really weird and out of place to me now. Hey, past me! Keep the anachronistic parodies and references in the BACKGROUND, where they belong!)
I had to go to Wikipedia to find out what a Digimon is, or rather was. Seems they flopped compared to Pokémon. Of course, this is 25 years later.
Took a minute to get the violet *TWITCH* at the end, but I got it. 😏️
*pushes glasses up nose* Um, ACTUALLY I believe you’ll find that the Digimon franchise is still going strong and the most recent TV series only just wrapped up earlier this very year *nerdy snort*
No, but seriously, that’s just one of the reasons I avoid such blatant references these days. When it’s not immersion-breaking, it just runs the risk of people not getting it.
Most things flopped when compared to Pokemon. Sonic flopped when compared to Pokemon. Digimon still exists, and prepares both new cartoons and games. Their games are also more diverse and experimental than Pokemon ones, with one of the latest, if not the latest, being a horror virtual novel with turn-based-strategy combat.
