page 1353 – Insert Joke About Mattresses
I really shouldn’t draw comics that involve sleeping, because I inevitably wind up finishing them in the wee hours of the morning, at which point they feel ironic in ways I didn’t originally intend.
And SPEAKING of me not getting enough sleep, there’s gonna be some extra comic content this week! This Thursday is Far Out There’s birthday, and Friday is Valentine’s Day, and I’ve got bonus comics coming for BOTH of them! They’re already drawn and scanned, too; I just need to do the editing and then them loaded onto the site. Still, that’s enough extra work that I PROBABLY need to skip another TWC Voting Incentive this week. I mean, if I somehow manage to pull an insane productivity surge and get BOTH the other comics finished and ready on Wednesday, then I’d probably be able to get a new Incentive done as well… but that’s not a wise thing to bet on. Still, there’ll be something new for you all to read ONE way or another!
I’m having trouble even imagining what kind of spaceship engine would have exhaust chutes, but I can think of two dangers of being in there:
1. the exhaust probably involves hot toxic chemicals (probably more exotic than just carbon monoxide)
2. since it’s a spaceship, the exhaust presumably vents into space.
Avatar is in no real danger, but neither Tax nor Stilez have shown any ability to survive breathing toxic chemicals or endure exposure to hard vacuum.
I don’t think it ever ended being explicitly stated elsewhere, but I wrote this page with the mindset that the ship’s engines are off (or at least idling) since they’re mostly just killing time while trying to deal with all the unwanted guests. Thus, various parts of the engine system would be 9relatively) safe until the ship starts moving again.
Normally one might be concerned that an emergency activation of the engines might happen, seeing as how often emergencies occur on the Exposition, however, since Tax has already demonstrated an ability to sense/predict future events, particularly hazardous ones, it seems reasonable that she would know that the engines won’t be activated during their stay there before entering the exhaust chutes, and would have not entered if her danger sense went off. Stilez has been exposed to attacks by entire planetary militaries, so while we don’t actually know the details of how, she must have some resistance to or instant recovery from high temperatures, explosive forces, and toxic chemicals, as they probably threw that an more at her in a futile attempt to stop her (when, if only they had known, they could have just used soapy water instead!)
@ Hovertext: I believe you have made Warning Sign Jokes before, but not that specific one. It’s just a little too close to the standard internet-joke of:
Left Sign: “Warning: Do not follow sign on the right”
Right Sign: “Warning: Do not read sign on the left”
For you to feel it hasn’t been used. I could be wrong, though, because I’m not reading through all the archives right at this moment. I feel like if you HAVE used that sign-joke before, it was a page with fifteen different jokes like that, while it’s a major focus of this page.
come on, join me on an archive binge!
I’ve read the story at least three times, with the latest being the reupload to this website. I’m just a little too busy to do it right now.
ive already lured you into commenting on old comics, surprised none have lured you into “just the next page”
You just succeeded in making me go back a few pages to find out “What started this, again?”
Does that count?
Oddly, this is the way I Archive binge this comic at least a good 80% of the time. I go to a random page for researching something or finding a reference, and then want see what led to that page…and end up reading dozens or hundreds of pages in reverse order. That only happens with this comic though, not any other media. There’s just something about FoT that seems to compel my brain to want to read it backwards.
i wind up in a similar situation but wanting to see what comes next
