page 1345 – T-Shirt Design no. 254709
I’m pretty sure we’ve seen Tabitha in at LEAST twice as many different outfits as characters who have been in twice as many pages as her. All the better for filling the online store with more t-shirt designs, right? …and before you ask, no. I have not added this shirt to the store …YET. I probably will at some point, but for now, ever free moment I have needs to be spent on getting Christmas content finished ahead of time.
But speaking of doing things head of time, I’m actually queuing this page up early Monday afternoon! It actually got done in a very timely manner! YAY ME! …now let’s see if I can also get Friday’s Voting Incentive done on time. That’s actually a really fair question since, as alluded to above, I’m gonna be working on a BUNCH of other things over the week, so there’s a very real possibility of me suddenly waking in a cold sweat at around 3am Friday morning and realizing that I forgot all about the Incentive. Lord knows I’ve let bigger things get lost in the shuffle…
EDIT: WELP. I did indeed forget about the Voting Incentive. And after bashing through multiple Christmas pages all in a row, I just don’t have it in me to draw a funny right now. Sorry, guys! I’ll actually have one for next week! I promise!
So, now there’s a few questions that need to be answered.
One, does this new material EVER stop growing, and, if not, will it end up turning The Exposition’s internals into a metal solid block eventually?
Two, assuming the new material won’t turn the insides into a solid mass, does that mean that The Exposition is now effectively an immortal ship, able to reconstruct itself from any damage if given sufficient time?
Three, if number 2 is correct, then if the ship is split into two, could two new ones grow?
Four, regardless of the answer to the other questions, is the ship now a danger to whatever planet it comes across, having the possibility to “infecting” the planet with the living metal, resulting in the planet slowly being transformed into said metal?
Five, assuming that entire ship is now living metal, does that mean that it’ll grow over time, potentially becoming the size of a planet?
I could probably come up with more, but this is enough for now.
Given her recent track record, it’s also a fair question if Tabitha’s wonder flooring even works as well as she thinks, or if it’ll turn into goop in a few days and Cap’n Crosby makes her clean it up and fix the holes all over again.
I would hope, that after seeing how well she “fixed” them the first time, they may reconsider having her fix them again if that was the outcome. Its just begging for a cycle of trouble.
Cut to Cap’n Crosby hiring some professional repair crews and and then making Tabitha pay for them… which is probably what he would have done anyway if the ship wasn’t still under Stilez Quarantine.
He can’t do that anytime soon, anyway. Stilez is STILL on the ship, and probably will be for a few months.
That said, I was confused about your line… until I saw the “and makes Tabitha pay for the repairs” part. While the Captain isn’t technically an outright stingy or greedy character, he does have a lot of the same characteristics & jokes as characters who are.
So, as the primary focus of this week’s strip is, of course, T-shirt design, I’m wondering if Tabitha’s shirt might be considered offensive to persons of a Gear-Centric Cultural background? Particularly persons who are already sensitive to Anti-Gear Heresy already.
(Then again, it’s just as likely it’s licensed by their planet’s ‘Gear Gear’ Marketing and Branding Administration and they make a good commission off every shirt)
I just fully read your comment, and have to disagree. That isn’t a biological being harmed by a gear. That’s the face of a Gear-Powered Golem Mascot Character. The gear in it’s head shows that it’s mobile, and is typically spinning constantly. The one eye is an “x” because of the spinning gear being behind the other, and because it makes the design look more interesting.
I would not at all be surprised if, canonically, that Mascot Golem was designed on, or is primarily popular on, the Moon of Stuanuleir.
I mean, we know that it almost certainly isn’t the Mascot Character of the moon itself, as that’s likely the gear with eyes, mouth & tophat, as seen on page 1279 – Clockworkuosos is my new favorite word, but still.
On the other hand, members of a gear-powered society MIGHT consider it a form of cultural appropriation.
So Tabitha “invited a whole new, self-replicating, living construction material!”
I was expecting her to say “invented” — did she actually mean “invited”? That raises even more intriguing questions!
The easiest answer is “It was a typo. You were the first to pick up on it”.
The easy answer is “Tabitha didn’t create the self-replicating, living construction material. Instead, she managed to find a way to reach into an alternative reality where it already existed, and transport it into this one. Kind of like she did with the Kudzu Chair Seraph, only in a more ‘the results remain’ type of situation”.
The hard answer is “She invited the material in, and got a recipe for how to produce the stuff with the materials she had on hand, before following the instructions as well as a Mad Scientist could. Given that the instructions would have sent anyone who wasn’t already insane, insane, Tabitha probably came out with the best result possible there”.
Okay, I’m officially leaving that typo in. The potential implications are too fascinating.
