page 1259 – DAPPER
WHEW! Sorry for the delay, everybody, but I did wind up getting this page out the door while it’s still Tuesday over here. Technically, that’s ahead of what I was predicting last night, so fro a certain point of view, this page is actually EARLY!
And speaking of weird updates, I think next week is going to be… unusual. For one thing, next Tuesday is Valentines Day, so if I do the usual special holiday comic for that, it’d take over the regular update spot. Normally, in a situation like that, I’ll either bump the next regular comic ahead or back a day, but here’s the thing: Next Monday is also Far Out There’s FIFTEENTH BIRTHDAY! I know I don’t generally do milestone celebrations anymore, but that one just feels like even more of a “WOW it’s been a long time!” moment than the past few birthdays. I dunno, I guess I just count in fives a lot. So I might actually do a celebratory extra page instead, and just do the regularly scheduled page 1260 for Tuesday instead, I haven’t decided yet. I guess that just means everybody will have to check back regularly next week to see what happens!
And yet Marshall will still look 1000x better than them, effortlessly, wearing what he would normally wear, and Layla will still care 1,000,000x more about Trigger despite him normally wearing garage-sale rejects from a sack of random pseudofuturehippie clothing. If they really wanted attention, they should have had Tabitha dress them. They may have all ended up wearing teddy-bear costumes or some such crazy thing, but it would have at least got them noticed.
Well, to be fair, Layla would notice if they started looking disappointed and sad in front of her… which would only wind up enabling more of this sort of behavior in the future.
Also “pseudofuturehippie” (all lower cased) totally sounds like an album title from the late 90s/early 00s.
Which just goes to show yet again that Ichabod was 100% correct – if she’s that easily manipulated by sad looking rich boys, she was totally unqualified to be the head of a criminal syndicate scamming the absurdly rich out of their excessive wealth.
(I googled pseudofuturehippie and discovered that A. nobody has used it yet, I totally need to trademark that! and B. Googling anything on the internet these days just leaves me depressed about humanity.)
Layla’s easily manipulated by adorable children. As soon as they stop being adorable she’ll happily scam them for everything they’re worth. The thing is, these boys are actively trying to be in her good-books, and are emotionally neglected despite being well off. Both of which are things that hit’s Layla’s “adorable” button.
For example, Lambert, Vashti’s younger brother, couldn’t manipulate Layla no matter how he tried. Nothing about him is adorable, and he’s just abusing his sister’s wealth, fame, and good graces. He also seems completely unrepentant about being a douche to his sister.
Good points all around, at least one of which I can’t comment on without risking spoilers 😀
