page 1171 – continuous cast juggling
Well, now I REALLY know Far Out There is getting back to normal: I have art problems with this page that I want to complain about. The layout of this page is kind of backwards; the first two panels ought to both be up top, while the THIRD ought to be the biggest and spread out across the whole bottom half. Avi springing into action really needed more room to be big and melodramatic, not smooshed and cramped. I knew something about this page was bugging me as I drew it, but it didn’t finally hit me what was wrong until I was in the final stages of editing, well past the point where re-drawing was an option. Yeah, some fools out there might have thought that only doing one page a week would prevent that kind of problem, but NOPE! Well, at least I like the writing here. Even when her ravenous carnivore tendencies are at their peak, Layla still wants to avoid hurting Tabitha’s feelings. Awww.
And speaking of whom, IT FINALLY HAPPENED! IT’S REALLY HERE! A NEW PAGE OF TABITHA GETS GROUNDED IS UP ON TOP WEBCOMICS! It’s an April miracle! And speaking of miracles, while I haven’t gotten any more batches of old TWC incentives re-posted on the Gallery yet, I DID finally fix the bug that was preventing the animated pages from loading. Man, you would not believe how many different switches in different places you have to hit to convince WordPress to not try to automatically re-scale or compress images. Oh, and as long as I’m complaining about technology, this page was supposed to go up HOURS ago, but my internet kept cutting out on me. Heck, it’s gone down again as I write this. I’ve got NO idea how much time will pass between me finishing this sentence and the page actually getting published…
(EDIT: It was close to an hour. Fun times.)
Layla really wants her meat burger.
As in, a burger patty sandwiched between two other pieces of meat.
Possibly with added bacon.
I think the BBQ sauce is optional.
Author’s comments:
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from reading webcomics over the years, no matter what the update schedule, there will always be art problems (at least, from the point of view of the artist).
Also, I can definitely believe you about the WordPress settings stuff.
Voting Incentive:
Apparently that’s where Mooney should have been looking for her temporal bomb.
It still wouldn’t have done what she wanted, but it would have been much closer.
Also, the burger patty itself would be several different layers of meat folded over each other
The burger patty being different layers of meat folded over each other just goes without saying. 🙂
I apparently forgot to mention how much I like May referring to “a Stilez” rather than just “Stilez” here.
That is, after all, the name of the official Nitpicker clause about dealing with her.
I also somehow get the impression that perhaps she hasn’t been warned that hanging around Ichabod means a guarantee of repeatedly encountering Stilez…
That, or she WAS told but got distracted and forgot
That also seems possible…
Does she know there’s just one Stilez? (well, as far as anybody knows, anyway…)
That’s an excellent question… on SEVERAL levels 🙂
I still remember that one voting incentive that one time…
There is only one Stilez. Sure, there are attempts at copies, clones, really, but none measure up to even a fraction of the original.
And I mean that literally. There are facilities by significant major powers that attempt to make clones of Stilez for Super Soliders, WMD’s, and other purposes, but they never have her reality-bending strength and durability. In fact, they’re close to only being about as strong as a normal, untrained, human, and training them runs parallel to normal human training growth. Due to this, many, but not all, of the powers that run such operations have permanently shelved their research into cloning Stilez due to it not producing the intended results. Several of them expect their research to be destroyed by the security features they set up for if one of the Stilez’s were successful but rebelled (usually setting up the entire planet to be able to be sent directly into the nearest star or blackhole).
Admittedly, not all of the research stations were built with that much security in mind, but at least the more intelligent governments did so.
For the record, I still haven’t one hundred percent decided on the canonical of that Incentive… mostly because of the potential storyline implications either way. (Man, if you think I’m reluctant to pin down a character’s AGE, that’s nothing…)
Honestly, excusing the children (though, possibly including them), a person’s age in a space-age comic with known genetic manipulation could be a lot broader than what would be normal for humans. I’m talking a potential 300 years+ lifespan here, with over 250 of those as a “young child to healthy adult” (aka below the physical age of 35. I chose 35 because my quick google search said that the human body starts to decline in muscle strength and power from 30 to 35, though it accelerates after 50-60, and nosedives after 65).
That’s totally fair. I’m STILL honestly not sure if Sophia is an abnormally-smart child or an abnormally-child-sized adult.
Sophia’s one of those characters that are designed to have their age questioned. If fifty years pass in-comic time, she should still look the same, but make an off-hand comment about being trapped in a temporal bubble for a few years during the time skip, or something to that effect, so that the time skip doesn’t give an actual answer to her age.
