page 1168 – and now, back to our show…
Can… Can it be? Is it really real? Did it finally happen? YES! A REAL ACTUAL REGULAR FAR OUT THERE PAGE!!! And it only took sixteen months! And now… now comes the awkward process of remembering just what the heck was happening before we were so rudely interrupted. I mean, I’ve got plenty of rough drafts to work from, but still, it just feels so WEIRD… Like, I’ve already been inking the next page, and I keep having to go back and double check what characters were wearing the last time we saw them, and that stuff feels like a LIFETIME ago. Please bear with me as I struggle to relearn all this stuff…
Oh, and speaking of bearing with me, more news and housekeeping: To reiterate what I’ve said several times before, Far Out There is on a “One Page A Week” schedule until further notice. Because this page is going up when it is, I GUESS that means the new Far Out There Day will be Monday for the foreseeable future, though I can in no way promise that will stick. We’ll just see what happens as it happens. If you really desperately need more Far Out There in your week, there’s always my Patreon, which still has side comics coming out on a semi-regular basis as well.
And speaking of Side Comics, there’s also the matter of TopWebComics to discuss. The next item on my To Do List is to finally set up a sub-page of this site to house all the old Voting Incentives and Patreon stuff, and the first thing I’ll be doing there is re-posting all the Tabitha Gets Grounded comics so that I can finally re-start that series. However, once that’s done… I dunno. Honestly, I’m really debating whether continuing to post extra material on TWC is a sound use of my ever-dwindling time/energy. I’m really wary of burning myself out again, and the thought occurs that, if I AM going to stretch myself doing extra material every week, maybe I should reserve that energy for doing Patreon stuff. The general public would still get to see all that stuff eventually, the paying customers would just get first dibs by a few weeks. I dunno, it all depends on what I feel like after I start doing THAT weekly on top of this… and I’m still not even used to doing THESE on a regular basis again. I mean, holy crap, I’ve only got six days to get page 1169 finished! What is this madness?
A NEW UPDATE! YAY!
@ Hover Over Text: Even if that’s the case, the % given by Ichabod’s device would only show how much higher than average the current risk of horrible death is. Admittedly, I would not be surprised if 25% of that 35% came from Stilez being in close proximity and thus a risk of being annoyed, 5% for people attacking because Stilez is on board, and 5% due to where Stilez is currently positioned.
@ Top Web Comics: Hey, you updated the comic address to here! Good on you! But, yeah, I don’t foresee you doing more than possibly finishing the Tabitha Meets Her Mom Comics on TWC until you’ve finished the site, and probably not even finishing that.
@ Timer: Edit Add, because I just saw something weird and wanted to share. It is NOT a bad thing, just.. interesting. Anyway, I just clicked back on this tab after looking at other pages for a few minutes (probably about 10 minutes, it turns out), and saw the countdown timer for how long I can edit it just dropping like a stone. Apparently, it’s set up so that the amount of time is recorded, but the visual only updates when you look at it, and it can only update one second at a time. So if you go away for a while and come back before the timer’s up, you get to see it turn from something like 29 minutes 30 second to 19 minutes 2 seconds incredibly rapidly, before it just suddenly stops and decreases in real time. At least, it did with me. I just had to share that fun fact.
Oh, if nothing else, I’m definitely gonna finish the Tabitha comics because the ending to that will actually be plot relevant later on *tease*
Yay for new updates!
…And now I have to remember what is going on too….
(Sorry for such a short post…)
SO many continuity hiccups to look forward to in the coming weeks…
Including, apparently, my name in my last comment being the victim of autocorrect.
I think I’ll resume my habit of avoiding posting comments from my phone.
(I also didn’t see the edit stuff on my phone, and even if I had, it doesn’t let you edit your name. Oh well.)
Let’s all just focus on the fact that we at least got the all-important Avatar picture 🙂
(Also, the edit feature doesn’t work on phones? I didn’t know that…)
I don’t know if it doesn’t work on all phones, it just didn’t appear on my phone.
And yes, the Avatar avatar is always important.
How hard were those shrimp shells stuck on there, that Avatar had to cleave them off? Sounds more like the kind of thing that Bridget would do, rather than have done to her.
That’s probably why she seems so annoyed about it
It’s OK, since apparently it’s “No bid deal”.
Which seems to imply that it was done in some sort of Game-show format, I would guess.
Tabitha really just has to make a big production out of everything. I’d be annoyed too if someone made cleaving shrimp shells off my shoes into a Game Show. Although now I’m kind of curious as to what the rules of the shrimp-shell-cleaving-game-show were….
It seems like it is more likely to have been done due it being awkward. And I don’t know how much of a sense of touch the zombie kids have, but it’s entirely possible that they have just enough that it slightly hurt to do to herself, and getting external aid made it easier. Kind of like when people get someone else to help ripping off a bandaid.
Would it be too nitpicky to point out that a beam sensor placed that close to the floor has only a small chance of actually detecting an intruding Amazon Catgirl, who would have to step right into it, and who naturally has a huge stride length, and therefore only a small chance of stepping right on it.
One would think a Nitpicker would realize that.
Or….one might suspect that said Nitpicker actually deep down subconsciously actually wanted to be surprised by sudden unexpected Giant Amazon Catgirl hugs, thus causing him to intentionally misplace the sensor in a poor location. 😉
Obviously, such sensors are not positioned in fixed locations. Rather, they actively move to be positioned approximately wherever a person’s toes are when they are walking within their area in order to perform a more thorough scan.
The device actively determined that there were four other people in the vicinity.
The thing that looks like a laser beam is just to verify that the suspected target is, in fact, the actual target, and is moved into the appropriate position in order to determine that whenever any people at all are determined to be passing through the sector.
I imagine it would start with the humanoid entity that is most likely to be the specified target (in this case Stilez), and on failure, would proceed through the rest of the subjects from most to least likely to be target.
(and also Ichabod isn’t as terrified of Stilez as he likes to think he is)
Oh, Ichabod certainly isn’t as scared of Stilez as much as he likes to say he is… unless he’s talking to or actively meeting with his girlfriend, in which case even mentioning Stilez is more terrifying than even being fired by Sophia.
The reason why I assume the beams are so close to the ground is due to the fact that, if they were any higher, Stilez or Tax would notice them, play with them for five minutes, and then destroy them. Additionally, notice how the sensors that were only cut by Stilez’s foot were still able to detect Avatar, Tax, Bridget and Tabitha. Obviously the laser tripwire is for something specific that Ichabod may not be using, and the device has other sensors which is how Ichabod is detecting Stilez’s movements through.
The boring real world answer is that having the sensor beam down at the floor meant I could draw Stilez’s foot “tripping” it, which I felt would be the easiest way to process what was happening at a glance.
In-universe, I like the idea of that just being a small part of a larger sensor apparatus, and a moving one at that. Let’s run with it!
