Fighty Fathers Day (2024 edition)
The Xafri Twins are rapidly inching further and further towards the top of my looooong list of Far Out There characters I wish I had more excuses to use. And yes, if their sense of fashion is any indication, Maziham and Mahizam’s father apparently had waaaaay more of an influence over their formative years than their mother.
Anyway, check back Tuesday for page 1324! …hopefully! Yeah, I’m writing this Saturday night, and the page is still only half penciled. This was another one of those weeks where a whole lot of little things all kind of hit together and congealed into one big exhausting thing, to the point that I’m feeling a BIT burnt out at the moment. Hopefully I just need to hit the sack early tonight and everything will balance itself out, otherwise I guess there’ll be some kind of extra disclaimer added right below this Monday night. Let’s see what happens!
Their sense of fashion doesn’t mean anything. Their mother could have enjoyed either the rock-punk and/or suit ascetic, too. Hell, she at least birthed the Twins to their father, so he must have worn something she found attractive at least once.
Watch Future Me decide years down the road to declare they’re, like, test tube babies with no actual parents to speak of, and then curse Present Me for writing this joke before I knew any better.
That still works. The affectionate use of the titles of “Father” and “Mother” mostly connotates to the person who raised you, not necessarily the one who is directly responsible for the origin of your genetic history. So they could have no parents, while still having caring parental figures.
Hell, depending on historical and interpersonal connections and connotations, there is the possibility that Claire or Wilkins (depending on what Claire’s actual relationship with Wilkins actually is. If it’s akin to mother and child, that’s a no, but if Wilkins is just short and baby-faced, like Sophia, the two could be in a romantic relationship) is the individual they consider their Father.
I doubt that’s the case, they didn’t seem to defer to or acknowledge Claire any more than any other Nitpicker, but it is still arguably possible.
Wilkins bio on character page says he’s married to Claire.
Claire does not seem nearly old enough to have been their guardian/parent, though.
(Not that that means anything, as art style makes everyone look young, and visual age in the FOTverse has little relationship to chronological age anyway…I just don’t want to imply that the heavily armed extremely dangerous woman looks old 😉 )
As argumentative as they are, I’d be more likely to suspect that any fashion style they chose was the exact opposite of what their parents wore, than that they are emulating them, and probably specifically chosen to annoy their parents. Not every kid can be like Bridget 🙂 (Or, I guess they can, but you have to build them yourself in a lab)
That’s a good point, actually. I mean, they’re both rock & rollers, so maybe their parents are super into classical opera or something?
