Far Out There Looks At Christmas Lights – page 25
MERRY CHRISTMAS! May your family group photos be ruined less often than the Far Out There crew’s are!
Appropriately enough, this is another one of those comics where the end result is a lot different than what was in my head. Ideally, Blip would have been obscuring a lot more of the image, but then the reader wouldn’t have been able to tell what was even supposed to be happening. In retrospect, this idea would have worked a lot better as the final punchline in a multi-panel comic, not a stand-alone image. Well, maybe next year.
BUT ANYWAY, even though I’m writing this nearly two weeks out, I can already say with certainty that I AM going to be waiting until January 7th to start up regular Far Out There updates again… BUT there’ll still be a special New Year’s something going up next Tuesday, so do still check back here for that. Until then, hope you all had some fun with my yearly holiday self-indulgence!
EDIT: Well, I was HOPING to have an extra bonus Christmas surprise finished in time to go up with this page: the long delayed next chapter of that Far Out There story I’ve been poking away at on Patreon. Unfortunately, do to various Real World holiday business, it’ll still not QUITE be ready to go up by the time you read this. I THINK it’ll be in vaguely presentable shape by this weekend, though, so keep an eye on the Patreon for that (and I’ll try to remember to amend this note when it does go up)
12/28 EDIT: Well, the BAD news is that I let another TWC Voting Incentive slip, so… that sucks. Now how I wanted the last Top Webcomics update of 2024 to go. But the GOOD news is, the primary reason I was flaking on THAT was because I FINALLY finished that story chapter! It’s live on Patreon for $2 and up patrons, and… I apologize in advance for any and all really weird and egregious typos or nonsensical sentence structures you may/will stumble across. Yeah, even after I got the last of these pages queued up to go live automatically, I still wound up in SEVERE crunch mode heading into Christmas Day. Trying to bash out four separate coloring books for my sister’s kids all at once was… unwise. BUT IT GOT DONE! Just like the next chapter of the story got done! But anyway, yeah, special New Year’s page this coming Tuesday, then a return to normal comics the week after that (and HOPEFULLY a new TWC Incentive in between, once Crimbo Limbo passes and I can remember what day it is again)
re: author comment – How about a multiframe gif where the first 9 frames are just them standing there in a group posing with one of those photo timer clock icons counting down from 10 in the upper corner, frame 10 just has the Cap’n beginning to move out of place and run towards the camera, and then the last frame at “0” has Blip taking up 90% of the frame. (Although I do hate that obnoxious trick-gif where a motionless photo has something jump out at you all of a sudden to startle the viewer, in this case it’s actually justified)
Also, Merry Christmas!
I mean, added motion would help a little bit, but the real issue is more the standard page dimensions. When I made a narrow, zoomed-in thumbnail for this page, I actually liked it a lot more than the “full” comic.
