OH NO, FAR OUT THERE HAD SLIPPED INTO THE REAL WORLD, EVERYBODY LOOK OUT!

Another page where I like how the lighting turned out… no pun intended. I kinda wish the shadows on the characters were darker, but over all, I think this worked pretty nicely. And I definitely thing using a photo of lights works better than that attempt to DRAW them earlier (that’s no stock photo, by the way. I took that at the Zoo last week)

(Historical Notes: THE INVASION OF PHOTOCOLLAGE BACKGROUNDS BEGINS!  Well, it’d be a few years before I started doing this on a semi-regular basis, but the success of this was a major enabler.  In retrospect, I do wish I’d gotten a picture of a more elaborate display than just “random mass of lights on some trees, but as I mentioned above, this picture was taken at the Smithsonian Zoo.  Between a desire to be non-denominational and just staying on-brand, most of the zoo’s decorations were weirdly-generic animal-themed.  It was less Christmas and more Las Vegas pet shop.  Also, my camera was kind of crap at this point, so if I DID come across any better decorrations, odds are good the picture wouldn’t have been usable.  It’s kind of a miracle this one turned out as well as it did.)
