Page 182 – Uh Oh, he’s Monologing
…how should I have spelled “monologing”? I’m pretty sure it’s not a real word, regardless of what The Incredibles wants us to think.
Well, I’m going to refrain from my usual lengthy commenting today, mainly because those transparency tricks are VERY hard to do, and I’m kind of sick of being in front of my computer after doing them.
*runs away from computer*
FREEDOM!!!
(Historical Notes: Yeah, I could make another “Oh, you think you’re in front of the computer a lot NOW” jokes, but the real amazing thing is that “monologing” is apparently STILL no recognized by spellcheck as a word. Also, please keep in mind that I had no idea how to do transparent layers at this point. All this hologram stuff was drawn on a single layer. It’s sloppy as heck, but there’s still something unintentionally impressive about accomplishing something in the absolute hardest way possible.)
That is because it is spelled “monologuing”, the act of carrying out a monologue.
(Just to be picky about spelling of course) XD
To spellcheck’s eternal shame, it doesn’t recognize “monologuing” either. I officially renounce all faith in Microsoft Word.
According to several “official” online dictionaries including Merriam-Webster and Cambridge, monolog(ue) is purely a noun, meaning they don’t consider the “ing” form of it a real word. Urban Dictionary lists “monologuing” as a valid word, while Wiktionary lists both “monologing” and “monologuing” as words. If you want to use The Incredibles as a source, you could try watching the relevant scene with Closed Captions or Subtitles enabled and see how they spelled it there.
Those obsolete dictionaries have no idea what they’re talking about.
Monologueing is a perfectly cromulent word.
The use of such words never fails to embiggen me.
Oh wow, I never even thought of that. I should go do that, just to be sure (and then to manually add it to the spellcheck and SHOW IT WHO’S IN CHARGE)
