page 1276 – WARNING: joke probably only works in English
I’m not actually sure how the physics of this check out. Clearly, I should be throwing/shooting/trebucheting more things into other things so that I have a better idea of what I’m talking about. Research is important to the creative process, don’t you know.
Anyway, sorry there wasn’t a new TWC Incentive on Friday. If you’ve been keeping up with me elsewhere, you already know that I switched over to a new computer last week, and of COURSE the process wound up being more complicated and time consuming than anticipated. And yet, thankfully, this much-longer-than-expected computer changeover STILL wound up being shorter and less frustrating than the PREVIOUS few times I had to uproot everything and move over to a new machine. All that to say, the new rig is MOSTLY set up, enough for me to get this page done on it, at least. So we should have a fresh TWC Incentive up this coming Friday to wrap up the series of April Fools AI outtakes. And speaking of which, if my time management holds out, there SHOULD also be another batch of vintage Incentives going up on the Gallery in a couple days. Stay tuned for updates on both!
EDIT: TIME MANAGEMENT ACHIEVED! The old Deleted Scenes & Aborted Arcs set of Incentives are back online!
MORE EDIT: Okay, several things. First, I finally got around to fixing the number of comments the Recent Comments column displays over in the Incentive Gallery, so now it’s actually useful. I mean, you’d think I’d have fixed stuff there FIRST, seeing as how that’s the page where I still do mass posts, but oh well. It’s done now. Also, I found a plug-in to add a Like/Dislike button to the comments, so that’s a thing now! Finally, I went ahead and posted the new TWC Voting Incentive, but despite what I said earlier, it’s NOT going to be the last one. Turns out there’s still one more weird picture in the stack I’d forgotten about. Oh, and speaking of me forgetting things, I also should have mentioned that there’ll be an EXTRA Father’s Day post going up on Sunday! You’d think I’d get used to alerting people about this stuff in advance, but NOPE!
Physics, just as a concept, have decided that they don’t really want to be around Stillez. How else could she jump into the air, grab hold of a hovering party boat, and, with absolutely no leverage or contact with anything but said boat, manage to THROW THE ENTIRE BOAT INTO THE GROUND.
That said, it would probably be relatively easy to make a space ship shake from the inside, all you need is to set off something explosive in the correct place.
…I said EASY, not SAFE or SMART. Also the word “relatively” is important there.
I like idea of Physics having a “Do Not Serve” list with Stilez’s picture on it.
Depends on that you consider the ship “shaking” – If the distracto-thing is 1kg, then the ship is approximately 4 billion times as massive (it’s about the same length as the original Enterprise, mass guess from internet – probably would actually be more since volume is greater) So if you’re talking the ship moving, then it would have no perceptible effect – however if you refer instead to vibration from the impact, that’s possible, maybe – passenger compartments likely don’t have anywhere near the vibration/impact/explosion suppression as the Cargo Bay, Firing Range, or Nursery do. But I think it’s about 15 years too late in this comic to start worrying about real physics 😉 Rather say that the ship’s nonrelativistic inertial drive system detected the sudden internal high velocity acceleration and briefly overcorrected. It’s a known flaw with this model of drive system, but it never comes up because nobody usually tosses items at Mach speeds inside a passenger/cargo ship, that would just be crazy.
and yeah that probably only works in English. good thing they speak English in space on other planets a billion years in the future
Let’s pretend that all the dialog in this comic is actually being automatically translated for our present day comprehention, and in the future everybody communicates via a combination of emoticons and Wingdings.
Ooooooh, thumb options! It’s like a real Webcomic now! 😀
nitpick having nothing to do with the content of the strip: vote incentive author comment: (past)->last
At least I think that’s what you meant to say…had me a bit confused for a minute trying to figure out what you meant, but then again, I am easily confused these days….
Oops! Fixed, thanks!
@ Voting Incentive: Yes. Tabitha is haunted, it’s why, and how, she has two zombie children. The thing in the corner is unrelated, but probably thinks that she’s a vampire or something, and thus included pictures of her spirit.
I would have blamed the haunting more on the fact that at least half of her ‘science’ seems to involve summoning and/or use of some variety of evil-looking technodemonic entity or entities. There’s got to be all sorts of left over demonish spirit residue or something from that stuff.
It turns out there’s a lot more overlap between mad science and the mystic arts than Tabitha would ever want to admit to her Dad, I guess.
Her Totally Real Science is completely different from that crazy mumbo jumbo her Dad does – Real Science is BLUE! Not GREEN! 😀
