page 1154 – highly productive conversation
(Historical Notes: I just want to say that I didn’t make up anywhere NEAR as many of the bits of Aunt Domino’s rambling as you’d probably think. A LOT of this stuff comes directly from Real World weirdness. I know I just recently said that I’m iffy about blatant references to the present day in Far Out There, but I think it’s forgivable when the “real thing” being referenced isn’t really real anyway. I also like how these comics actually gave Claire a bit of a personality beyond “the tall one who smokes.”)
Honestly, no, this is not crossing a line. This is simultaneously damage mitigation, reasonable punishment, and making Ichabod more accommodating to an idea that everyone knows he hates.
Damage Mitigation due to it saving these two the time it would normally take to calm him down, as well as the fact that they don’t have to deal with any verbal abuse and attempts to shout at them.
Reasonable Punishment due to the fact that he NEVER answers anything. Seriously, in most workplaces ignoring communication is a fireable offence, particularly when it includes communication from your superiors.
And more accommodating due to how he reacts. Honestly, unless we can assume that he would get used to it (and he probably would), subjecting Ichabod to Aunt Domino more regularly as a punishment would make sense to me.
Yeah, but most of almost everything that most, if not all of the nitpickers seem to do on a regular basis are fireable offenses in most workplaces. I think they’re all basically treated as eccentric geniuses whose fireable offenses are tolerated due to the rarity of their talents, and that Sophia’s job is less “manager” than “babysitter/nanny”.
“Babysitter” sounds quite accurate
and ironic, considering how old she looks.
(or how old she actually is, if she’s the age she looks. not that FOT characters have ages.)
New thing: Fairly certain that this is my first time seeing it: Claire’s DRINKING a “Can Of Beard”? So we can confidently say that it’s a drink now? Or at least something digestable?
I mean, we have had some conversations about what Can Of Beard actually is, with one of my suggestions is that it’s something of a soft-drink with something like non-dissolved fairy-floss floating in it, but there has not ever been anything like a confirmation about what it actually is.
I should also point out that Claire is one of the few characters to carry a burning tube of tobacco in her mouth (assuming future cigarettes are still made of that) so there’s no telling what her tastes are.
They’re probably actually Xalbacco cigarettes. I understand they’re actually very healthy. Xal-Gox Industries Inc. assures me so.
