page 990 – trying that over again
(Historical Notes: And, once again, we have a page where I couldn’t find a capture with the original commentary. So, unless Ed8 performs some internet magic and somehow makes archive.org cough up a capture that I can’t find, we’re back to just the italic comments. But anyway, I still really like seeing Big Sister Layla, even if *looks around to see if Layla is listening* it IS kind of similar to how Tabitha was playing around with Trigger. I mean, there’s some major, obvious differences, but they aren’t TOTALLY dissimilar. AND DON’T YOU TELL HER I SAID THAT. …also, do I make that same observation somewhere else? I’m getting some deja vu over this all of a sudden.)
@ The “Club” in Comic: Pretty Girl is paying attention to how we play, instead of just ignoring us like everyone else! Pretty Girl must be best girl in existence!
@ Ichabod: Honestly, this looks less like encouragement, and more like the best distraction you can hope for. Layla just needs to give advice like Tarkus typically does, and they’ll be more likely to follow it.
@ Historical Notes: The Major, Obvious Differences is where all the important points are. Layla isn’t doing any contact, nor is she seducing, flirting, or even giving an implication of sexual attraction from her side. She’s literally just listening to them brag… well, Avi brag about them… and acting along as if his statements were true. I do understand where you’re coming from, there is the suggestion of flirting there, but where Tabitha’s actions aggressively pushed it onto Trigger before making it into a joke (almost certainly stealing his first kiss in the process), the “Club” merely have a hope for flirting from someone who sees them as sexually as she would toddlers (and doesn’t have a weird fetish about THAT).
Oh yeah, there’s several massive differences, especially if we’re just going by what we’ve seen in the comic up to this point. But at the same time, there IS still a rather selfish foundational motivation at work. Layla likes being the center of attention, and enjoys the fact that these kids unquestionably do as she says. Tabitha likes experiments and enjoys introducing new stimuli in order to witness the response. Both involve using others, even if it’s not malicious. And yes, again, there ARE more motivations play like Layla wanting to have some uncorrupted innocence in her life to balance out all the corruption she has in the OTHER parts. But still…
