Yoink’s name/role has gotten a little weird over the years, because she was created to lampshade something I don’t actually do that often anymore. Like most of the mascots, Yoink originates in the homework-based comics I drew while I was in college. Every day I’d come up with some kind of comic based on the previous night’s readings, and sometimes the joke would just be me being reminded of something else entirely. You know when you’re watching somebody’s Youtube review and it cuts to a clip from something else entirely? Basically that, except I was drawing the “clip” myself. Eventually, it sank in that I was spending my time and energy to TELLING SOMEONE ELSE’S JOKE, so I invented Yoink to put SOME kind of personal spin on the gags. As I said, though, I don’t directly lift whole jokes from other sources much anymore (I mixup and disguise all my theft, it’s called “being creative”) so Yoink doesn’t have much actual “plagiarism” to address anymore. The closest I can give her is when I rip off MYSELF… though now that you mention it, the “ripping off reader comments” idea WOULD have been great, if I could think of a less blatantly-fourth-wall-breaking way to do it 🙂

BTW, I don’t think repeating the same joke quite qualifies as Scribbles material, because there’s still SOME kind of joke being told. Scribbles is for when I’ve literally got NOTHING.
