Far Out There/Conventional Wisdom Christmas Crossover – page 23
Well THAT was an ordeal. I’m not even gonna complain about how late the page is this time, cos this time it’s pretty crazy to assume it ever COULD have been done on time. There were SOOOOO many layers of stuff to finish and put together for this page, and this version is STILL a bit simplified from what I was originally going for. Heck, I was still drawing parts of this at 7am. Not editing or coloring or putting in text, actually still DRAWING parts. That’s… rare even for me. (To be fair, I HAD been coloring for a while until I realized I’d forgotten to put Castral, Iconal, & Principal Baby in and had to go back)
Anyway, you may now commence speculation on exactly how old Sophia actually is (and to a lesser extent, how Ram consumes fluids)
(Historical Notes: To elaborate a bit on what Past me is complaining about, the bottom two panels weren’t meant to be separate, I had hoped to merge all the various drawing into one giant panorama of partiers. It’s only because of problems with scale and perspective that I wound up separating the two. Also, we see Claire in the second party even though I’d drawn the top of her head poking out of the hoard of people crammed into the car in the first page. Whoopsie! Also also, I wish I’d elaborated on Disonar’s line about the history of Hot Santas, because you just know that he has an extensive knowledge of the subject.)
I remember this page! I tried to come up with explanations on how Ram was drinking his drinks. I think that my solution was simply that he had a fluid access port to drink through.
…and then he just absorbs it through whatever the green stuff his head is floating in.
Yes. Exactly that. That seems exactly like a FOT thing to happen.
Have we ever officially established what that is? The obvious answer would be some kind of green fluid, but if I’ve never actually said that definitively, I could always throw a curveball and say he’s actually suspended in some kind of air cushion, and that it’s only the DOME that’s green.
To my knowledge, no, we have absolutely no idea what Ram, and those like him, is suspended in. It could be a liquid, a gas, a coloured energy field, a gel, practically anything that his head could bob in. The colour is likely to be important, though, even if only to keep it contained, otherwise the others we saw like Ram would have had different colours than green.
Well, if there’s one thing we know for sure about the Far Out There universe, it’s that science is almost always green.
